What are UNDP goals
To teach historically underserved youth and children of the world, empathy and collaboration, through the fundamentals of sport and leadership. Guard the Guardian (GTG) After-School Structured Life-Skills Program is designed to promote mental health and wellness to develop new ways of thinking and acting congruent with nature and humanity. We at GTG are committed to generating strong self-esteem, a vigorous sense of community, and facilitating positive and productive attitudes in our youth that their abilities are supported and increased, fostering aptitude, alacrity and happiness: “A positive attitude determines your altitude.”
Scope of work
Structured life-skills program with mandated book club that helps players build skills and strategies to becoming a great teammate and extraordinary people. Structure and routine are vital building blocks to healthy child (human) development. The more structure and routine generated in a child’s life, caregivers will invariably have more time, energy, alacrity to foster experience happiness and fulfillment.
Mandated Book Club
Studies shows that 25-30% of minority middle school children in New Jersey and New York are not reading at grade level. Our children are failing – at a destructive rate. Greg Jackson, Jr., Principal, Brownsville Collaborative Middle School A&T, Brooklyn, New York, is Educational Consultant of our book club. Participants will read one (pre-selected) book a month, with structured educational enrichment from licensed educators.
Hospitality: Culinary Arts (CA)
Hospitality training focuses on uplifting youth by cultivating household management skills as a fundamental awareness and practice of service is built. This training is designed to create new pathways of possibility with empathetic thinking that will help participates connect with others.
Being able to feed oneself and family are basic needs of all human beings. Our CA program is designed to generate independence, self-reliance, and an ability to prepare food for oneself, one’s families, and the world. Once a week, Chef Quincy Bradley, Johnson & Wells University, Culinary Arts Engineer will facilitate virtual lessons on kitchen safety and hygiene, food preparation and storage, delicious wholesome cooking recipes, and more.
Vocational training & technical education
Vocational training programs develop student’s skill-sets in basic technical skills: math, blueprint reading & design, masonry, electrical, carpentry, and more. Using OJT model(s), once a week, our trainings will command of mastery of career jargon, and foster practical experience through repetition. We prepare learners to pass various certifications, and obtain various licenses in specific fields, as well as develop interview skills. Bishop Billie Baker, Englewood, N.J. is Vocational Consultant.
Aquatic Conditioning
Studies show that inner-city youth rarely know how to swim. Swimming is a life-skill – survival skill. It is the ultimate total body workout with no resistance on the body; it enhances body control, breathing, and self-esteem. Coach Mat, Safe Splash Swim School Instructor, Paramus, New Jersey, is Swimming Coach. Our program will meet once a week where non-swimmers will learn the technique of swimming; swimmers will hone skills, master breathing techniques, and experience their bodies and minds with new invigoration.
Physical Training
We use structured techniques of running and conditioning that guarantee healthy weight modulation, confidence with breathing freely and strong, while learning and understanding more about their abilities and themselves. Physical training is thinking training, our program develops thinking skills that ensure self-esteem and self-control; components critical to our children’s decision-making ON THE COURT. Training sessions will begin in-person and virtual – once a week.
